The Director General of the Nigerian law school, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma on Tuesday said that out of 5, 300 candidates, a total of 888 failed the bar examination held in November 2023.
The DG, while reading out the statistics at the call to bar ceremony in Abuja said while 4, 412 emerged successful in the exam, 251 candidates secured first-class grade.
Expressing concern about the current state of the judiciary, Mary Peter-Odili, the chairman of the Body of Benchers, emphasised the pressing need to address issues such as conflicting judgements and lawyer indiscipline.
Odili also urged new lawyers to uphold integrity and avoid behaviours that could tarnish the legal profession’s reputation.
In response to these challenges, the Body of Benchers Daily Intel learnt has constituted a committee to propose effective solutions.
