The organisation said unless those responsible for the act are fished out and punished, those in positions of authority would continue to use unlawful means to intimidate and silence critics.
The organisation wrote: “The Nigerian authorities must carry out an effective investigation into the viral video in which a Kano-based political affairs commentator Abdulmajid Danbilki — was abducted in Abuja, handcuffed and then severely beaten for criticizing the Governor of Kaduna State Uba Sani.
“In #Nigeria, violent attacks, intimidation and threatening phone calls of critics and government opponents are escalating. We are deeply concerned by the allegations that persons in positions of authority and their agents may be behind these violations of human rights.
“Those suspected of being responsible for such human rights violations that have taken place, including those who may have given orders to the police to use force unlawfully or to deploy violent thugs against critics, must be held accountable and brought to justice in fair trials.“
