The Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge on Thursday banned the activities of unregistered native doctors and their female (Ezewanyi) counterparts who are of non-Asaba extraction in Asaba and environs.
The development follows the insecurity in Anambra State which was largely linked to the activities of native doctor who operates between Asaba and Anambra communities.
The monarch also decried the massive influx of people from other states who currently constitute a nuisance in the state.
Addressing journalists at his Palace, Prof. Azinge said: “We have banned activities of Ezewanyi because they have suddenly taken over the land and their activities, I consider nefarious.”
He explained that they are supporting not just the Yahoo Yahoo boys, but are also behind kidnappings, among others. ‘So, we banned them, and we have also directed that all the native doctors operating in this land now be registered and regulated, and, to that extent, they cannot operate unless they have the clearance of ‘Otuhas’, which is the governing legislative body in Asaba”.
He said: “Evidence abounds that most of the people that are being dislodged or dislocated across the Niger are finding Asaba a haven at this point, and that is why we want to be a bit more proactive.”
The Anambra State governor professor Charles Soludo had declared war on insecurity in the state, cracking down on the activities of native doctors who he said contributed in fueling all manner of vices.
