The FCT chapter of Shefarmers Association of Nigeria has launched the National Shefarmers Livestock Project to mark its one year anniversary.
Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, the FCTA Mandate Secretary for the Women Affairs Secretariat said at the occasion held in Abuja on Thursday that there was the need for more investment in women, stressing that it would be beneficial to the communities.
Aminu Saleh, AIG (Rtd), Grand Patron of Shefarmers, in his address, called for urgent land reforms to address issues that hinders women from overcoming challenges in farming in Nigeria.
He said the Association was conceived in 2021 to provide support to women with necessary tools due to the many disadvantages they face.
Saleh called on Shefarmers Association to take up the challenges of raising credit facilities, inadequate skills, cultural and social barriers especially discrimination and limited access to technology.
The Chairperson of the Association, Dr. Maimuna Abdullahi Habib, who spoke on the events theme ” Women Overcoming Challenges of Entrepreneurship and Food Security in Nigeria”, said women farmers are trailblazers who are committed to redefining agriculture in Nigeria.
She said Shefarmers Association are dedicated to empowering women who plays indispensable role in agriculture in our rural communities.
