Benue State Police Command has arraigned two brothers, Onyimowo and Ameche Idu, all of Ajide-Eke in Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court for theft and illegal possession of firearms.
The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Omaye Ijata informed the court that the suspects were arrested after one of their brothers, Christopher Idu, reported to the police that he procured a pump action gun for his personal protection due to incessant insecurity in the area.
He stated that the complainant reported to the police that the gun with six cartridges got stolen from his room, pointing out that after one month of searching, it was discovered with his elder brother, Ameche Idu who had claimed that he took the gun with the consent of their parents.
According to the prosecution, during investigation, both the suspect and the complainant were arrested and arraigned over a three-count charge.
When the matter came up for hearing, the plea of the accused for leniency was not taken for want of jurisdiction, while the prosecution demanded for adjournment.
Ruling, Chief Magistrate Peter Ogwuche ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre, Makurdi, and adjourned the case to July 22 for further mention.
