Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Saturday, abducted fifty and killing nine in a midnight attack in Maidabino town, the Katsina State.
The Amnesty International which announced the incident in a post on its x handle on Sunday, condemned the attack, adding that the Nigerian government, having abandoned the people of the rural north, has left them at the mercy of rampaging gunmen.
The organisation revealed that the gunmen operated from 7pm to 2am unchallenged, stating that the gunmen went from house to house and abducted people from their home.
“Last night, gunmen attacked Maidabino town in #Katsina state. Between 7:00pm and 2:00am the gunmen went from house to house unleashing violence and abducting people. Apart from killing 9 persons, they also abducted over 50 people and burnt 15 shops.
“The Nigerian authorities have left rural communities at the mercy of rampaging gunmen who have killed at least thousands of people in the north of the country since January 2020”. The Amnesty International stated.
