The two separate appeals brought before the Supreme Court by the Labour Party, LP, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against Hope Uzodinma as the elected governor of Imo State have been thrown out.
Consequently, the appeals of the LP governorship candidate, Athan Achonu and that of PDP Samuel Anyawu were rejected for want of merit by the Supreme Court, while upholding Uzodinma as the lawfully elected governor of the state.
In the lead judgment delivered by Mohammed Baba Idri, the supreme court held that the LP and PDP candidates failed to establish allegations of overvoting and other malpractices in the November 11, 2023 governorship poll.
The apex court therefore unanimously upheld the earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal and that of the Imo State Governorship Election Petition which sat in Abuja and dismissed the petitions in their separate judgments.
