The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, for signing the South-East Development Commission ,SEDC, Bill into law.
Daily Intel Newspaper recalled that the Bill was sponsored by Kalu and all the lawmakers from the South-East region in the House of Representatives.
The bill was passed by the Senate and House and has since been transmitted to the President for assent.
The Bill sought to establish an interventionist commission for the purpose of reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damage suffered by the region as a result of the effect of the civil war after 54 years.
The commission will also tackle the ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the South-East States which include Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi.
