Aloy Ejimakor, the special counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has stated that the legal team, ex-lawmaker and family members who were on a routine visitation were denied access to Kanu by the Department of State Services ,DSS.
Mr. Kanu has been in DSS custody since he was illegally abducted from Kenya by the Nigerian government in 2021.
At the resumed hearing of his case on February 10, 2025, the IPOB leaders had contended that the trial judge, justice Binta Nyako lacked the power to preside over his, citing an order of court where she recused herself from his case.
Mr.Kanu further faulted the Nigerian government for reassigning his case to Justice Nyako after the judge recused herself.
Apparently infuriated by the development, DSS reportedly blocked an ex-lawmaker, family members and the legal team from seeing Kanu
Reacting to the development, Mr. Ejimakor in a post on his social media handles revealed that the legal team alongside an ex-member of the Abia State House of Assembly and members of Kanu’s family were prevented by the secret police from visiting the IPOB leader.
He went to state that “This flagrant violation of the Nigerian Constitution and a subsisting court order will not stand,” he said.
