Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Anyim Pius Anyim on Saturday detected to the All Progressives Congress Party, APC.
Anyim’s possible defection to APC was hinted by the Ebonyi State chairman of the party, Stanley Emegha, in Ivo Local Government Area of the state about two weeks ago, during the party’s rally for local government elections slated for July 20, 2024.
The former Senate president eventually officially joined the APC during the grand finale of the rally for the elections of chairmen and councillors at Pa Nwele Orita Township Stadium in Abakaliki on Saturday.
Others who joined the party with Anyim include the 2023 governorship candidate with the Labour Party (LP), Chief Edward Nkwegu and his deputy, former member of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Nwabueze Ajah, some members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, among others.
Speaking at the rally, Anyim noted that Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state provided a level-playing ground in the state which attracted them to APC.
The decampees were received into the party by the national chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
Also speaking, the Minister of Works and Transport, Engr. David Umahi noted that Anyim has been helping APC, especially during the 2023 general elections, but that he only officially joined the party.
“To our son and my friend, the former Senate President of Nigeria, you have been one of the people that encouraged me to join APC but then I refused, saying it will distract me.
“I’m sorry that when I joined APC I did it without you. During the general elections Anyim worked for APC but today you are officially joining the party,” Umahi said.
