Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday down-tools over unpaid 7 months’ salaries to their colleagues employed in 2023, among other demands.
Daily Intel gathered that the decision was taken after an informal attempt early January 2025 failed to resolve the issues raised by the striking doctors.
However, it is unclear how long the strike would last, but Insiders said it would last for three days as a warning strike, adding that they may proceed on indefinite strike if the government fails to meet the doctors’ demand.
The doctors are demanding among other things : that the minister clear the Medical Residency Training Fund of 2024. Implementation of skipping and issuance of skipping letters to its members employed in 2023. Immediate payment of accouterments allowance for 2024, and payment of outgoing 13 months’ hazard allowance arrears.
The FCT association of resident doctors had in December last year issued a 14-day day ultimatum to the FCT minister, which elapsed on January 6, 2025.
