The Presidency has denied reports that President Bola Tinubu asked the Central Bank of Nigeria ,CBN, Governor Olayemi Cardoso to resign over his mishandling of Nigeria’s monetary policies.
The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga said in a post on his X handle that the claims are “all lies.”
He said “It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign.
The denial comes in the wake of unverified reports alleging that President Tinubu had ordered Cardoso’s resignation due to concerns over the economy’s performance and the continued depreciation of the Naira.
These reports which is now a subject of denials claimed that the directive was given before the President’s recent trip to China.
The report suggested that Yoruba elders intervened on Cardoso’s behalf, in a bid to salvage the situation.
The reports also insinuated that Cardoso’s appointment was secured through the influence of these elders.
