No few 14 persons have been confirmed dead while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries as a trailer rammed into a mosque in Kano State during Jumuat prayer on Friday.
It was learnt that the accident happened shortly after the Friday prayer at Imama town Kura Local Government Area of Kano.
Sources said the driver of the trailer (now at large) with registration number MKA 537XN, which was coming from Kaduna, lost control and rammed into the worshippers.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ibrahim Abdullahi said the accident was reported around 1.50pm.
According to the statement signed by signed by the corps spokesman, Abdullahi Labaran, nine of the deceased were buried on Friday afternoon while the injured are receiving treatment at a hospital.
“Upon receiving the distress call, FRSC Kano State Command promptly dispatched personnel to the scene, alongside other security agencies, to initiate rescue operations and provide immediate medical assistance to the injured victims,” the statement said.
Noting that FRSC was committed to road safety, the sector commander however urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies, as he extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.
