Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, accused of mastermind the the October 7 massacre in Israel, has been killed, the Israeli military has stated.
Sinwar’s body was spotted in the rubble of a building struck by an Israeli tank in Gaza, according to a radio station run by Israel’s military.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed Sinwar was “eliminated” after Israeli officials ran DNA tests and used dental records to confirm his identity.
Daily Intel gathered that there are no indication that hostages were harmed in the operation that led to Sinwar death.
Sinwar was appointed the new head of Hamas’ political bureau, following the assassination of his predecessor, Ismail Haniyeh in late July.
He was convicted in 1988 of playing a role in the murder of two Israeli soldiers and four Palestinians suspected of collaboration with Israel, and spent more than two decades in Israeli prison.
Sinwar later said he had spent those years studying his enemy, including learning to speak Hebrew.
He was designated a global terrorist by the US Department of State since 2015, and has been sanctioned by the United Kingdom and France.
