On Monday, Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf presented the office staff to Muhammad Umar, the new Emir of Rano.
Speaking after the presentation in Rano, Mr Yusuf said his government appreciated the contributions of traditional institutions in promoting peace and stability in Kano.
The governor urged the second-class emir to remain a father to all his subjects without discrimination and to prioritise education.
The governor said, “I used the opportunity to urge the royal father to lead by example and represent his people with equity and fairness. The Emir is a man of integrity, I am confident that he will continue to lead the good people of his emirate with exemplary leadership and integrity.
“I believe that the emir will live by the tenets of his office and in peace with his people.”
The new emir promised to be just and fair to everyone in the emirate.
The traditional ruler commended Mr Yusuf and the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, for their efforts in providing meaningful projects and promoting peace in Kano.
He appealed to the governor to revoke the five-kilometre road project in the area and reassign it to another contractor for speedy execution.
He said, “The five-kilometre road was crucial to the people of Rano, but unfortunately, the contractor handling the project cannot handle it.
“We are also faced with a water scarcity issue, and past governments have made efforts to address it by tapping water from Tiga. But there is a nearby mountain that can provide and supply Rano and its environs with the necessary water supply.”
