The Tertiary Education Trust Fund,TETFUND, has stated it would partner the Nigerian Armed Forces in the upcoming national research fair aimed at improving security as well as creating the enabling environment in the nation’s tertiary institutions.
Arc. Sonny Echono, TETFUND Executive secretary who disclosed this when he played host to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa at the FUND’s headquarters in Abuja said the military has a strong and vibrant research component, declaring that the military participation in the fair will be of immense benefit for their partnership.
He acknowledged the role played by Nigerian Armed Forces in keeping the country safe, adding that participation would be at no cost “We also know that the military has a very strong research component, so we seek this opportunity to renew our invitation to the military to participate in the fair. Participations for all Nigerians, including our schools and the military, will come at no cost to the participants.
In his own remarks, General Musa acknowledged the contributions of education in nation building. He equally thanked the ES for his vissionery leadership at the TETFUND, while pledging the military commitment for sustainable security awareness through education
“The country is going through so many challenges, and we know what education will do. With education people cannot be enslaved. There will be awareness and enlightenment. Some of the challenges we have with insecurity are caused by illiteracy. People being manipulated by some individuals, and because they don’t have a good understanding,” he said.
