Youth Wing of the National Council for Women Societies, NCWS, has expressed sorrow over the passing on of national president of the council, Hajiya Lami Adams Lau.
Mrs Lau passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2024, after a brief illness.
She was laid to rest same day in her hometown, Lau, Taraba State.
In condolence message signed by the 1st vice president of the NCWS Youth Wing, Geraldine Etuk, national youth leader of the council, Amb. Sarki Sylvia, on behalf of the youth wing nationwide, expresses sadness over the passing of the national president whom she described as a mother who served the council with utmost dedication.
She described the late NCWS national president as an iconic figure in the struggle for gender equality and women’s empowerment in Nigeria.
“With heavy heart, I received the news of the passing of our leader and mother, Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau who, until her departure, served with unwavering dedication as the national president of the National Council of Women Societies.
“I am deeply saddened by this turn of events, as I had the honour of serving as VP 1 under her leadership before her untimely passing. Our bond was not just professional but also rooted in a closely-knitted friendship that I fear will be irreplaceable. The loss is one I fear I may struggle to overcome, as her absence will be keenly felt, and I will dearly miss her.
“Her unwavering dedication, leadership, and vision inspired countless women and girls, and her legacy will continue to ginger us to forge ahead for a more equitable society,” she said.
While sympathising with her family, the NCWS, and all those touched by her passion and commitment, Sylvia said Hajiya Lau’s passing created an immense void in their midst.
She prayed that her legacy would endure as a beacon of hope and her memory providing solace in this trying time.
Sylvia also prayed Almighty Allah to grant her forgiveness and a place in Aljanah Fridaus.
