The Canadian authorities on Wednesday denied Nigeria army Chief, Christopher Musa entry into its country on suspected Nigeria’s negative human rights record.
It was gathered that the embarrassing treatment occurred on Wednesday when the CDS and a host of other army officers were denied visa by the Canadian embassy.
Confirming the development, the CDC who expressed disappointment over the incident said Nigeria must work to stand on its own in order not to be taken for granted by other nations.
He said “Every disappointment is a blessing. Yesterday, I was meant to be in Canada. There’s an event to honour our veterans, those that were injured during battles, and we were meant to be there,”
The CDC continued “We were invited with our team. Half has gone and half has been denied. It’s very disappointing.”
Reacting to the development, the national security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu berated the Canadian embassy for denying the CDS and other army chiefs visas.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the maiden annual lecture of the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies ,AANISS, Mr. Ribadu who condemned the action of the North American country, described the visa denial as ” disrespectful”
He said the incident though unjustifiable, was a stark reminder of the need to build a strong and respected nation.
“Thank you for the courage to say Canada denied you visas. They can go to hell,” the NSA said.
“Even though it’s painful, it’s disrespectful, but we are peaceful and strong and I agree with you that it is time to fix our country.
“Yet, this is another reason we work hard to make Nigeria work.”
