The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi has announced the suspension of taxes and import duties on essential food items in line with federal government moves to tackle hunger in the country.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu’s administration recently declared it has exempted essential food items from taxes and import duties in a bid to stave off food inflation in the country.
While acknowledging the widespread hunger in the country, the Customs CG pointed out that the government was ready to ensure ease of financial burden on it citizens.
He also announced the streamlining of export processes to facilitate the movement of Nigerian goods to international market.
The government noted that this move was aimed at crashing prices of food items in the market.
Different policies by the government are yet to yield results as of the time of this report as food inflation continues to grow, hitting 40.87% as of the time of this report.
