The Nigerian Legion ,NL, has called on veterans of the Nigerian armed forces not to join some disgruntled groups who are planning to protest over unpaid entitlements.
The National Chairman of NL Maj. Gen. Abdulmalik Jibril (Rtd.), who made the call on Thursday when he addressed journalists in Abuja said the disgruntled group acting on misinformation claimed that the entitlements resulting from adjustments of minimum wage increase has been paid to some members.
Jibril who described the payment claim as rumours said no such entitlement has been paid.
He added that those calling for protest are only politicizing the issues by exploiting the sentiments of members through misinformation.
“The ones that have been miscalculated because of the adjustment to the security debarrment allowance is also being considered through the Minister of Defence and the standing committee is part and parcel of the discussions so they are aware.
” This group of people want to capitalize on times like this when the Remembrance Day Jan 15 is coming up to embarass the government,” he said.
He said while NL is committed to the wellbeing of ex-servicemen, he called on members who have any form of grievance to express it through the proper communication channel.
