Executive secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission, NSSEC, Dr. Iyela Ajayi has commended the National Examination Council, NECO, for conducting the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations, SSCE, devoid of malpractice.
Ajayi, who was on a supervisory visit to Model Secondary School, Maitama; Federal Government College, Apo, and Funtaj International School, Gudu, all in Abuja, during the the 2024 NECO examinations across the FCT, also expressed confidence in NECO’s ability to curtail malpractice during the 2024 examination
“Judging from the good conduct I witnessed during the supervision, NECO certificates can be accepted both nationally and internationally,” Ajayi said.
He also urged the examination body to live above board to erase the notion of poor credibility of the examinations by foreign institutions.
According to him, the commission’s purpose for supervising the 2024 NECO examinations is to ascertain the ratio of invigilators to candidates at the examination hall.
Other reasons for the visit include assessing the conduct of supervisors and invigilators, seating arrangement of the candidates, and observation of whether the examinations started as and at when due.
The commission also assessed the conduciveness of the examination environment as well as the adequacy of questions and answer scripts and how they are distributed.
Meanwhile, the NSSEC boss has commiserated with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the people of Plateau State over the recent death of several students in Jos when a school building collapsed while students were writing their examination.
He also said the commission will soon commence enforcement of its national minimum standard for all senior secondary schools in the country.
