The Kogi State House of Assembly on Friday extended the tenure of Transition Committee Chairmen by additional Six months.
The extension was granted at the plenary following the resolution of the House.
Governor Ahmed Ododo had in the letter to the House intimated that due to paucity of funds, the State is unable to conduct local government elections, hence, the need to extend their tenure by six months to enable the State to adequately prepare.
Speaker of the House Umar Yusuf who read the letter charged the chairmen to be good ambassadors of their respective Local Governments.
“In the next six months, it will be interesting at the Local Government level as there will be mostly submission of reports to the Assembly. The Chairmen henceforth should take note of this” he stated.
Daily Intel Newspaper gathered that the tenure of the 21 Transition Committee Chairmen in the State was expected to expire on the 8th of July, 2024.
Following the approval by the House, the Transition Committee Chairmen are now expected to vacate their offices on 8th January 2025 when local government elections would be duly conducted.
