A police Inspector, Nura Ahmad, has been arrested and detained for the shooting a 20-year-old man, Ahmad Ibrahim, along the Zamare-Yauri road in Kebbi State.
Ahmad, who is attached to CTU Base 18, Zamfara State, was said to have shot the victim while on stop-and-search duty.
According to sources, Ibrahim, a resident of Yauri town, was confronted by the police officer, resulting in a fatal gunshot wound to his chest.
When rushed to General Hospital, Yauri, for treatment, a medical doctor confirmed the victim dead.
Reacting to the incident, the Kebbi State Police Command condemned Inspector Ahmad’s “unprofessional conduct.”
Speaking on behalf of the commissioner of police, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar assured the public that investigation into the tragic incident will be thorough and transparent, with the outcome made available in due course.
The police officer is currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Birnin Kebbi, as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the officer’s actions.
The command extended its condolences to the family, friends, and well-wishers of deceased, praying for his soul to rest in peace and offering support to his grieving family.
It also urged the community to remain calm as the authorities work to ensure that justice is served.
