Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has apologised to the president of neighbouring Azerbaijan for the downing of a commercial airliner in Russian airspace, in which 38 people were killed, effectively ending speculation as to what led to the crash.
Though, the Russian President failed to take responsibility for the crash, but a statement by Kremlin said on Saturday that
“(President) Vladimir Putin apologized for the tragic incident that occurred in Russian airspace and once again expressed his deep and sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured,”
Daily Intel reported that a passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines burst into flames on Christmas Day and crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan.
It had been reported the plane with 67 onboard came under fire from Russian air defence systems as it tried to land in Chechnya – forcing it to divert across the Caspian Sea.
