A senior official of the Nigeria Custom Service, NCS, yesterday died at the National Assembly Complex while attending an investigative hearing organised by the Public Account Committee, PAC, of the House of Representatives.
The spokesman of the House, Hon. Akin Rotimi disclosed this in a press statement available to journalists in Abuja.
The statement explained that the customs official died in the afternoon while on an official assignment before the House Committee on Public Accounts.
Several attempts by AljazirahNigeria to get further details about the deceased proved abortive, as Hon Rotimi repeatedly declined inquiries.
He only explained that the customs personnel died during engagement with the legislative committee, adding that the ugly incident occurred around 1pm yesterday.
The House spokesman further revealed that the man had some health complications, and that despite the immediate and diligent efforts of first responders and medical personnel at the National Assembly Clinic, he unfortunately passed away.
“It is with deep sadness and regret that we confirm the passing of an esteemed official of the Nigeria Customs Service who was at the National Assembly for an engagement with a House committee.
“The House of Representatives stands ready to support efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and is cooperating fully with all relevant authorities to ensure all necessary protocols are followed,” he explained.
The spokesman equally ask all to remain calm as further information would be provided to the public in due time.
The House commiserated with the family of the deceased officer.
