House of Representatives Committee on Industry has emphasised the importance of effective laws to ensure workable skills acquisition and management in the country.
The committee also stressed the need to ensure that laws are in alignment with contemporary needs, stressing that procedures for the acquisition of skills in the country must be finetuned for the optimal benefit of all and to engender economic growth and development.
Speaking yesterday at public hearing on a Bill for an Act to amend the Industrial Training Fund, ITF, Act 2011, Chairman of the committee, Enitan Badru said the hearing was meant to clarify ambiguities in the interpretation of key words in the principal Act.
According to him, “For the records, the existing legal framework for the Industrial Training Fund was enacted in 2011, this piece of legislation has been in operation in the last 13 years and you will agree with me that skills acquisition and management have evolved overtime and that the existing legislation can only stand the test of time when it is in alignment with the contemporary legal order.”
He emphasised the readiness of the 10th House to make human interest legislation that would ensure a better life for all Nigerians.
Badru explained that the public hearing, which he said was one of the major steps by the House in the passage of any legislation, was grass-root oriented with the sole airm of ensuring adequate social development across the country.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this public hearing was organised by the House Committee on Industry pursuant to the mandate of the committee after a second reading of the Bill,” the chairman said.
While calling for positive suggestions and meaningful comment during the public hearing, he said such would enable the committee to make a good report to government.
