Residents of Apo Resettlement, a quiet highbrow area in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have decried the poor state of link roads in the area.
Residents of the area have bemoaned the difficulty in accessing critical privately-owned facilities such schools and hospitals due to the neglect of link roads in the resettlement by relevant authorities.
According to a resident who craved for anonymity, alternative roads leading to important areas like markets and estates have remained inaccessible by both motorists and pedestrians due to years of dilapidation and neglect by the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA.
“Alternative road that is supposed to collect Agaba Estate junction to
Main Market to decongest the excess holdup leading to the market daily is not accessible to both motorists and people walking on the road.
“No access road to all private schools in the area. Any road you see tarred in the area, if you check well the residents work in one government parastatals or the other,” the source said.
He disclosed that some abandoned points and structures in the area have been cornered to safe haven by criminals and drug addicts who pose as danger to the residents.
“The Senator Zaphinia Jisalo neighbourhood roads are an eyesore.
Then worst is a cashew plantation in the area called Agwa TV, where Indian hemp smokers have turned to ‘no go area’ between 7pm and 6am daily.
“The main road linking Lokogoma, Apo Mechanic, Shoprite/burial ground is another death trap to motorists,” he said.
Another source said due to constant gridlock, women going to antenatal get delivered of their babies openly on the road.
Many other residents of the area who spoke to our correspondent said since the former FCT Minister, Nsur el-Rufail, left office, they had never had any impact of any other minister in the territory.
When contacted on phone for reaction, the Senior Special Assistant to the chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, on Public Affairs, Mr Kingsley Madaki, he could neither tell his calls nor return text messages sent to him till the time of this report.
The entire Apo District, including the Apo Resettlement area is under AMAC with Hon. Christopher Maikalangu as current executive chairman.
