Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu has described late late Senator Ayogu Eze as a respected leader with immense and unparalleled dedication to public service.
Kalu made the remarks while paying tribute to late Senator Eze at his service of songs held in Abuja today.
In a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, the deputy speaker recalled that the late former lawmaker, who died in April this year, was a former spokesman of the Senate as well as former Commissioner for Information in Enugu State.
Eze, a journalist and prolific writer, represented the people of Enugu North Senatorial District from 2007 to 2015.
Eulogising the late former lawnmower, Kalu said Eze championed the cause of his constituents and the nation throughout his time in the Senate.
He also extolled his commitment to deepening Nigeria’s democracy, stressing that the deceased left a lasting legacy that will continue to benefit Nigerians for years to come.
The deputy speaker added that Senator Eze’s death has created a void in the hearts of everyone who knew him even as he commiserated with the family.
“With a heavy heart, we gather today to remember and pay tribute to a
remarkable Nigerian, Senator Ayogu Eze. Senator Eze was a respected
leader and a man of immense character.
“His dedication to public service was unparalleled. Throughout his
distinguished career, Senator Eze championed the causes of his
constituents and our nation with utmost devotion.
“For the eight years he spent in the Senate, he was a member of the Constitution Drafting and Amendment Committee that made some novel changes to Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.
“He was also the official Spokesman of the Senate, serving as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Media.
“Furthermore, his commitment to deepening Nigeria’s democracy leaves a
lasting legacy that will continue to benefit Nigerians for years to come.
“Beyond his political accomplishments, Senator Eze was a man of great
warmth and kindness. He was genuinely able to connect with people from
all walks of life. He will be deeply missed, not only for his sharp intellect
and political acumen but also for his jovial spirit and infectious laughter.
“To the Eze family, I can only imagine the depth of your grief. Please know
that Senator Eze’s passing leaves a void not just in the APC, Enugu State, the South East, and Nigeria, but in the hearts of all who knew him.
“May his memory be a blessing, and may you find solace in the knowledge that his
life and service touched countless others,” Kalu said.
