Wife of the governor of Sokoto State, Hajiya Fatima Ahmad Aliyu has assured of the state government’s commitment towards eradicating fistula and improving safe motherhood.
Mrs Aliyu gave the assurance at an event to mark World Fistula Day and Safe Motherhood held at Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital, Sokoto.
The governor’s said the move was to ensure that every women in the state, particularly the pregnant ones, have access to quality health care for safe delivery.
She pledged to provide a generator and other hospital equipment to the hospital for the smooth conduct of its activities.
Reaffirming the commitment of the state government to improving the activities of the hospital, Hajiya Ahmad Aliyu called on women to always engage in small scale businesses so as to be self-dependent.
In her remarks, the state Commissioner for Health, Asabe Balarabe disclosed the effort of the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu to improve the health status of women and children in the state.
Balarabe said the state government is doing its best to improve the living condition of VVF patients in the state by establishing a VVF centre as well as providing them with psychosocial support to have a better life after they recovered.
Also speaking, executive secretary of the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Larai Aliyu Tambuwal described the Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital as her second home, expressing her readiness to revamp the activities of the hospital.
Earlier, Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the hospital, Dr Hadiza Aliyu Tori briefed the governor’s wife on some of the challenges affecting the hospital among which is electricity.
