Ogun State Community Social Orientation and Safety Corps, code-named So-Safe Corps, has arrested three suspects for allegedly buying stolen transformer armoured cables worth N9.8 million at OPIC Estate in Agbara area of the state.
The suspects were arrested by the corps’ surveillance team who acted on a tip-off that the cables were being sold in the area.
The suspects – Mansirina Usman (27), Janadu Ahyarn (20), and Husseni Abdullahi (20) – were arrested on June 27, 2024.
So-Safe’s public relations officer, ACC Moruf Yusuf, who confirmed the arrest in a statement in Abeokuta, said prior to the arrest, the corps got information that the transformer was vandalised and the armoured cables worth N9.8 million stolen by unknown thieves.
He said acting on the information, the area commander, Adeosun Adeniyi and his team were directed by the corps commandant, Soji Gonzallo, to swing into action and apprehend the perpetrators within 48 hours.
The corps PRO said the suspects confessed to buying the stolen cables from Mustapha and Minister, who are currently at large.
Usman was said to have bought 30kg of cable for N300,000, Ahyarn bought 25kg for N250,000, and Abdullahi bought 20kg for N200,000.
He also disclosed that the suspects had in their possession four off-cut armoured cables, N18,850 in cash, three Android phones, two wristwatches and two unmarked TVS motorcycles.
Yusuf said the three suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the Agbara Divisional Headquarters of the police for further investigation and prosecution.
