President Bola Tinubu early Friday returned to Abuja, the nation’s capital, ahead of the swearing-in of the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun.
Tinubu departed Abuja for France on Monday for a brief work stay.
He arrived Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 2:25 am.
Later today, the President is scheduled to swear in the new CJN at the State House Council Chambers, who succeeds Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who has retired from service.
The National Judicial Council ,NJC, had recommended Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun to succeed the outgoing Ariwoola at its 106th meeting on August 15.
In a statement released on Thursday, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, confirmed that President Tinubu will formally appoint and swear in the new CJN on Friday, as previously announced.
“President Tinubu will swear in Justice Ariwoola’s successor at the State House Council Chambers on August 23, 2024,” Ngelale had disclosed.
