The Nigerian Military has vacated Banex Plaza after days of occupying the popular Wuse II, market.
A shop owner confirmed that the plaza had been opened for business after the military vacated the premises.
“Yes, they have reopened. They are having a meeting now; all the shop owners are having a meeting, but I don’t know if they are meeting with the military. They opened the plaza this afternoon, around 2 pm,” he said.
The military had on May 18, 2024 laid siege on the Abuja market after some soldiers were reportedly beaten at the market.
A buyer had reportedly gone with the soldiers to demand a refund from a shop owner from whom he bought a phone, which then became faulty.
The Nigerian Army had also detained a shop owner, Caleb Onyemaechi, at the Mambilla Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja, over the clash, and also arrested some people whom they claimed were involved in the assault.
